Summer Scientist is over for this year, but…

The Summer Scientist event 2012 was a roaring success and everyone involved had much fun! Thank you to everyone who came and everyone who made the event possible!

We have learned A LOT about child development at this year’s event and will use this blog – amongst other things – to keep you up-to-date about the findings, pictures from the event etc.

Anyone who attended the event will also receive a newsletter with the findings in due course.

Here are just a few pictures as a taster! More will follow….

Until then look out for Summer Scientists in the news! On our University’s webpages now and this Thursday in the Echo!

We are ready!

After months of preparation we made the final push today to get everything in place for the arrival of the Summer Scientists on Monday morning.

Doing Summer Scientist week means quite a change from the usual work routine of an academic. I was incredibly excited to be driving a van to pick up the tables and chairs from Bishop King Primary school, although the excitement did wane a little bit after I’d carried 20 tables….

With a van full of Summer Scientist sized tables and chairs we made our way back to campus to train our wonderful student volunteers, brief academic researchers and then get all equipment and games and surprises into the Business and Law building. Well, many hands do make light(er) work and by the afternoon we had finished setting everything up for Monday.

So, here we (nearly) all are! We are ready for a great week of summer science fun! And we look forward to meeting Summer Scientists new and welcome back those who have been before!

We are fully booked, but….!

We are excited to say that the event is fully booked! Although we are sad to say it to anyone who has not managed to get a place. We operate a waiting list for each session (like our bookings it is based on first come, first served) and if you book in now we will add your names to the waiting list. If someone cancels their space(s) we will let you know by email/ phone that the space is now available and check to see whether you can still make it. So, please continue booking, even though we are full.

We hope to see everyone there!

Summer Scientist on BBC Radio Lincolnshire

The Summer Scientists, represented by Fenja Ziegler, took to the airwaves today on BBC Radio Lincolnshire Les Sheehan’s show, talking about the event, what we do and why.

Why not listen in again, if you have missed it. The interview starts at about 1 hour 38 minutes into the programme, if you want to skip straight to it.

Radio is a far cry from the day job, which might explain the big, relieved smile when it was all over!
